Labor's disgraceful treatment of the unemployed

They've done bugger all for the unemployed, other than tone down the abuse practiced by the Howard government, may his name be blotted out forever.

No stimulus bonus, tho the unemployed would have spent it at GoLo's and grocers not plasma TV's and iP.your.money.away

No mention in the budget.

No mention anywhere. We've just disappeared.

Now they want to put us on income support!

We humbly accept that we are unworthy, and bad for the national interest.

We humbly petition honourable member of parliament, please build camp to concentrate our minds on being trained in the Cert IV for moving rocks from the bottom of the hill and back again. Also we humbly beg to be put on a calorie controlled diet, as we are all fat from not being able to afford anything other than flour and water.

Try living on Newstart

I've been on it for 2 years, tho I apply for several jobs a week, apart from time off for dead end "training courses".

Try living on $235 a week.

Newsflash: Not all baby boomers are rich or own property. Particularly if they're women.

Particularly if they've had disabled children to care for. It's bad enough trying to get a job because of age discrimination let alone having a patchy work record due to caring.

And don't even ask me about my super. I'm too ashamed of how little there is in the kitty due to aforementioned patchy record

It's been a long time...

... since I started this blog with Chris Conlan who lectures in Journalism at UTS.

We did it because we loved the name. But I wasn't ready to acknowledge that I really was an old chook.

But my current employment situation has left me in no doubt. Make that unemployment situation.
